KDVR: Bra‑Free Run Benefits Coloradans with Breast Cancer

Bra-less run in Denver to benefit Coloradans with breast cancer

DENVER (KDVR) — Local breweries are hosting their first-ever bra-free run that will ultimately benefit Coloradans diagnosed with breast cancer.

Berkeley Alley Brewing, known as The Alley, and Empourium are hosting the event in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Sunday, Oct. 5.

Racers will run, walk, skip or “whatever floats your boat” down two blocks of Tennyson Street, without bras, from Empourium at 4385 W. 42nd Ave., to The Alley at 4342 Tennyson St.

There is a $20 fee for the event, which includes:

Pre-race drink at Emporium

  • Yoga warm-up

  • Titty Trot

  • Post-race drink at Berkeley Alley

The group will meet for a drink at Empourium at 10 a.m., then do yoga at Ohana Yoga and Barre located at 4342 Tennyson St. at 10:30 a.m. before the race kicks off at 11 a.m.

After the race, The Alley will celebrate with drinks, live music and food until 1 p.m. The event will also include self-examination education from BeaconRN.

“We wanted to create a community event that brings people together through laughter, awareness and, of course, beer. We also want to remind everyone of the importance of early detection and self-exams, which is why there will also be a booth teaching about self-exams as well as educational materials about breast cancer,” co-owner of The Alley, Chelsea Rhoads, said in a statement to FOX31.

Tickets for the event can be purchased online through Eventbrite for $23.18.

All proceeds from the event will go toward the local organization Polite Tumor, which supports young adults (ages 18-39) in Colorado who are diagnosed with breast cancer so that they can focus on healing.

According to the Polite Tumor website, young adults spend an additional $20,000 more for breast cancer treatment than those 40 years and older. The organization also has opportunities for volunteers and donors to help the cause.

The Alley is also hosting a suicide awareness event on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to raise support for mental health. A band will play music live and Dreambent Tattoo Studios will give semi-colon tattoos. Proceeds from all tattoos and $1 for each pint sold will go toward the Jefferson Center for Mental Health. The event is free, but attendees can buy a $15 ticket to go directly to the band.
